NARCISO RODRIGUEZ AND FRAGRANCES

for her and for him capture a sense of mystery and intrigue, a simplicity and purity that disarms the senses; they are both enigmatic and intoxicating. The essence of modern sophistication, they are created to complete one another, just as the menswear and womenswear collections are designed to complete one another.

Narciso Rodriguez’ own signature scent, Egyptian musk serves as the heart and soul of for her and for him and yet inspires two distinct fragrances. Created by one designer, one workshop, one thought process and one discerning aesthetic, for her and for him represent a provocative play of purity, a synchrony of density, texture and scent. Narciso Rodriguez highlights elements that are most significant to him about both sexes: a youthful vitality that endures, a simple elegance and a strength that co-exists with vulnerability.

The bottles are originally inspired by ancient Chinese snuff bottles transformed by the signature process of painting from within that creates a light infused graphic translucence. The result is a work of pure form and function, two most distinctive fragrances contained within equally distinctive bottles, works of precision from a true perfectionist. Narciso Rodriguez believes there must be an inherent logic and beauty to everything he creates.

Says the designer: “You can’t forsake style for function or function for style, and both are essential in the quest for beauty.”

for her

The woman who wears for her embodies a new femininity that is powerful and singular, a femininity that celebrates a woman whose inherent sensuality and natural grace resonates from within.

for her defines modern femininity and provides an intimacy that is intoxicating. Composed of a rare musk and a blend of floral, amber and woody pulsations, it is an emotional fragrance based on intuition that captures the essence of real women and embodies true elegance. A measure of Narciso Rodriguez’ love for all women, a gift to honor all women.

for him

With the creation of for him, Narciso Rodriguez celebrates the dual nature of today’s masculinity. The man who wears for him is complex and dynamic. There’s no distinction between who he is and how he appears, just as there’s a balance between sensuality and elegance, strength and vulnerability. The for him man is self-aware, thus naturally assertive and charismatic, leaving no one indifferent.

for him is a smart fragrance. Composed of a heart of musks amplified by three facets: violet, woody and amber. for him is raw and natural, yet strong and sexy. More than anything, for him captures the essence of mystery and it’s timeless because it’s about now and the future.

“SWEET CHARITY” dance comedy musical show

“SWEET CHARITY” SET TO OPEN AUGUST 5

“Do you wanna have fun? A few laughs? And a good time? “

Prepare yourselves as the spirit of the 60’s set in a night club in Manhattan comes to life as 9 Works Theatrical proudly presents Broadway’s most sensational spectacle and critically-acclaimed dance comedy musical  “SWEET CHARITY.”

Like vintage champagne, “SWEET CHARITY” shall pop its cork set on August 5, 2011 – 8 p.m. at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater, RCBC Plaza, Makati City, to become one of the bubbliest, frothiest and happiest musical treats Manila will experience.

“ SWEET CHARITY ” (book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and conceived, staged and choreographed by Bob Fosse whose name is synonymous to “ All That Jazz,” and “ Chicago”) is about a taxi dancer’s adventures and misadventures in the ways of love and who always gives her heart, and her earnings, to the wrong man.

“ SWEET CHARITY ” was originally directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse when it premiered on Broadway in 1966. With over 600 performances, the production won the Tony Award for Best Choreography in the same year before opening in London a year later. A 1969 film version starred Shirley MacLaine. A Broadway revival in 2005 featured Christine Applegate.

“ SWEET CHARITY ” follows the misadventures of dance-hall hostess Charity Hope Valentine, a woman who believes in that swoony, goopy, look into your eyes forever kind of love. In a desperate attempt to find Mr. Right, she always ends up giving her heart and her dreams to the wrong man.

According to Robbie Guevara who is directing Sweet Charity,“ This is one production that is a musical in every sense of the word. It's a dancing show, too, with great opportunity for use of dramatic movement. And with Cy Coleman’s rhythms and sounds, and Dorothy Fields’ vernacular fun of 1960’s New York, there will be all-time great show-stopping numbers that will really sizzle. Above all, it’s going to be fun.”

Cy Coleman's music has jazzy and blues influence as well as inspiring ballads, featuring such hits as “ Hey, Big Spender,”  “If My Friends Could See Me Now ” and “ The Rhythm of Life. ” The techno, percussion orchestrations tie in beautifully with Dorothy Field's lively and witty lyrics. And with a pit orchestra under Musical Director and Conductor Joseph Tolentino and Musical Director for Vocals Sweet Plantado, expect the musical’s stupendous jazzy score to be delivered with flair.

Giving life to the different characters in “ SWEET CHARITY ” that promises a lot of zip, zest and real energy are a mix of the country’s well-seasoned actors and talented young artists in the field of entertainment and dance.

NIKKI GIL plays Charity Hope Valentine, a kooky, feisty, punchy and a bubbly dance hall hostess in New York who has been used and dumped by a succession of distinctly uncharitable men, but who hasn’t stopped hoping for a happy ending. As a mainstay host and artist of “ASAP Live ” and “E-Live” on ABS-CBN and a VJ for MYX, Nikki’s foray into theatre included a lead role as Elle Woods in the local production of the musical “ Legally Blonde ” produced in 2010. Audiences can expect the unexpected as she unleashes her dynamite – legs, frills, lipstick, and a performance that will be full of vitality, pathos and verve.

KRIS LAWRENCE plays Oscar Lindquist, a claustrophobic, wimpy nervous man who Charity befriends in a stalled elevator. A neurotic tax accountant by profession, hopefully, he shall give Sweet Charity the love she has longed for. From winning a local singing talent search a few years back, Kris has become one of the young breed of soul artists and has recently released his album “Moments of Love.”  His regular TV show is on GMA-7’s “Party Pilipinas.”

SHIELA VALDERRAMA-MARTINEZ, who plays Nickie, one of Charity’s closest confidantes at the Fandango Ballroom, is one of the leading ladies of Philippine theatre today. She has appeared in various productions here and abroad which include Hong Kong Disneyland’s “The Golden Mickeys,” “Cinderella”, and 9 Works Theatrical’s hit show, “The Wedding Singer” as Julia Guglia.

CIARA SOTTO, who plays Helene, another close confidante of Charity’s, is one of the country’s top-rated artists. Her recent role as Mimi in the 9 Works production of “ RENT ” last February marked her stamp as a stalwart both in acting and dancing. She also appeared in “Magsimula Ka” at the Music Museum in 2010.
SHEREE BAUTISTA plays Carmen, one of Charity’s co-dancers. A TV personality who ventured into the musical theatre scene, her role as Mimi in the recently-concluded rock musical “ RENT ” has proven that indeed, her musical artistry was well-received by the press and audiences alike.

MIGUEL FAUSTMANN plays Herman, the authoritarian owner of the Fandango Ballroom and Charity's boss. As Philippine theatre’s well-respected ‘man for all seasons,’ Miguel’s roster of roles he has portrayed for over 20 years in Repertory Philippines’ various productions firmly attests his stature as the ‘consummate artist.’

OJ MARIANO plays the dual role of Vittorio Vidal, the charming, egotistical and confident Italian film star, and Daddy Johann Sebastian Brubeck, the enigmatic leader of the Rhythm of Life Church. Originally a singer and concert performer, OJ’s luck came into a streak when he bagged the coveted role as Tom Collins in “RENT” last Febuary 2010. His highly-acclaimed moving performance prompted 9 Works Theatrical to cast him again for the same role in the re-runs of “RENT” last December 2010 and February 2011.

ANGELA PADILLA plays Ursala March, the melodramatic actress and Vittorio's girlfriend. Angela has been a resident actress of New Voice Company since 1996, having appeared in Aspects of Love, I Want to Make Magic, Save the Human, Wind in the Willows, and Into the Woods.

Joining the ensemble a mix and match of seasoned talents as well as up and coming actors in the industry. Notable actresses include Caisa Borromeo who returns to 9 Works Theatrical for this production of Sweet Charity after her critically acclaimed performance in Little Women, singer-actress, choreographer, and Party Pilipinas blocking director Chinie Nepomuceno, and prima dancers Vinia Pamplona and Carmelle Ros as dancehall hostesses opposite Charity. Also joining the cast are theater veteran Topper Fabregas, Job Bautista who was last seen as Angel in 9 Works Theatrical’s RENT, Francis Matheu who was the choreographer of 9 Works Theatrical’s THE WEDDING SINGER, Anthony Tarrosa Ong, Peter Alcedo and Chai Relucio.

The “ SWEET CHARITY ” artistic team is led by Robbie Guevara (Director), with Lorenz Martinez (Assistant Director), Joseph Tolentino (Musical Director – Pit Orchestra), Sweet Plantado (Musical Director – Vocals), Mio Infante (Scenographer), Martin Esteva (Lighting Designer), Mio Infante and Hanna De los Reyes (Costume Stylists and Designers), Dale Amon (Graphic Designer), and Roy Macam (Photographer).

The “ SWEET CHARITY ” production team is led by Santi Santamaria (Executive Producer), with Anna Santamaria (Company Manager); Toff de Venecia (Marketing & PR Director); Toots Tolentino (PR Consultant); Jonjon Martin (PR Manager); Carlos Canlas (HR Manager); Sunshine Domine (Production Manager); and Aries Alcayaga (Stage Manager).

COHEN PROGRAM NOW IN MANILA

Cohen Program now in Manila

Medically-based rapid weight loss and wellness program uses food as medicine;
allows individuals to lose an average of 8 - 10 lbs. a month

If you’re growing tired of the many weight loss plans that never seem to work, all is not lost.  An unhealthy diet or sedentary lifestyle may not be the only culprits.  The problem may also lie in your hormones. This can be addressed through the Cohen Program which is scientifically proven to help individuals shed as much as 10 lbs. in one month.

The Cohen Program is based on internationally-accepted medical research and has been available for over 25 years with thousands of success stories worldwide. Available exclusively at the Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre Philippines, the program was formulated by Dr. Rami Cohen, MD, an international specialist renowned for his research on the hormones involved in obesity and weight loss.

Dr. Cohen’s research isolated the human growth hormonesresponsible for obesity. These are Human Growth Hormone (HGH) which preserves muscle tissue and breaks down fat; insulin which regulates blood sugar levels and therefore stops hunger pangs and serotonin, which tells the body when it is full or satisfied, especially starches.  In people who suffer from “obesity syndrome,” the HGH level is low; unnaturally high levels of insulin are released and serotonin is not discharged correctly. As a result obese people constantly crave food and, despite how little or how much they eat, they still gain weight.

With the Cohen Program, Dr. Cohen personally develops an individually tailored Eating Plan. Each person isgiven a blood test and the results are used to analyze their unique body chemistry.A personalized eating plan which triggers the body’s natural ability to shed off fat rapidly and safelyis then developed to bring their hormones back in balance.

The Eating Plan consists of three meals a day taken in specific quantities from the basic food groups of protein, vegetable, fruit and carbohydrate.  No exotic or expensive food needs to be purchased.  The essential formula is the specific quantity and combination unique to each person.

The specialized Eating Plan is followed by a short, stabilizing Refeeding Program, to reintroduce rich foods without upsetting the balance created by the Eating Plan.  This ensures that the weight won’t be regained once a patient resumes normal eating, provided that management guidelines are faithfully followed.

“The Cohen Program is not a diet, it is a lifestyle,” says Barbara Young, CEO of Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre.  “Following the program precisely will allow the body to correct the chemical imbalance naturally.  The Cohen Program is also a safer, healthier and cheaper alternative to invasive procedures,” says Barbara, herself a beneficiary of the program.

Before she gave the Cohen Program a try, Barbara weighed 172 lbs.  Caught up in the frenetic pace of the corporate world, she would eat whatever she wanted in order to cope with stress; or for no good reason at all.  But after adopting the Cohen Program, Barbara says she now “eats only when I know my body needs it and I also watch what I eat.  I’ve also influenced my family to eat healthily by eliminating many of the processed foods we used to eat or use for cooking.  We’re now conscious of what types of food are beneficial for our bodies.  Now I’m healthier and slimmer.” Barbara lost 46 lbs. in just four and a half months.

Barbara found it hard to keep the good news to herself so she shared her positive experience to her friend Regina Rodriguez-Chuavon.  Regina then convinced her sister Dr. Angela Rodriguez-Bandola to also undergo the program.

The greatest lesson I derived from the Cohen Program is being conscious of the types of food that I put in my mouth.  Before the program, I always went for fatty foods and junk food.  In a fast food restaurant, I had a hard time ordering because I wanted everything on the menu.  After the program, to my surprise, I would find myself in a fast food restaurant and again have a hard time ordering because this time, there was nothing on the menu that I wanted to eat,” says Regina.

For Dr. Bandola, her weight of 240 lbs. made life difficult for her.  She also found it very difficult to find clothes that fit her.  Wanting to lose the extra pounds, she tried everything from jogging, boxing, medications to all the other diets that were in vogue. These did not result in any substantial weight loss.  And when she stopped, she would regain the weight “with interest.”  Says Dr. Bandola: “With the Cohen Program, I saw and felt the results immediately.”  Just one month into the program and she was already unearthing her old clothes because she could fit into some of them again. When she finished the program, Dr. Bandola lost 110 lbs.  Now, she remains mindful of what she eats and she feels so much better.

The life-changing benefits that Barbara, Regina and Dr. Bandola gained from the Cohen Program inspired them to set up the Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre in the Philippines.  Together, the three women actively serve as senior consultants to their clients.

Barbara says the center is “more than a business, it’s an advocacy.”  She and her dedicated staff see it as their mission to save and transform the lives of those affected by obesity-related diseases.  “With 3 out of 10 people being obese, we knew that this program will be able to help a lot of people.  We want to give Filipinos an effective, safe and natural alternative to weight loss and a lifestyle that can help them remain healthy for the rest of their lives,” says Barbara.

To know more about the Cohen Program, visit the Cohen’s Lifestyle Centre Philippines at Suite 1006, 10th Floor Medical Plaza Makati Building, Amorsolo cor. de la Rosa Streets, Legaspi Village, Makati City.  You may also log on to www.cohenlifestyle.com.ph, email info@cohenlifestyle.com.ph or call 502-1090, 501-5237.
